The Challenge
In an increasingly interconnected world, ways of harnessing networks of intellectual and innovation capital are critical to shifting the dial on transformative digitisation within the sector.
However, RMIT’s Health Transformation Lab proposed that there is a need to take this a step further. To truly achieve this level of change, it is equally critical to disrupt the ways that collaboration and innovation happen and create new places and spaces that support networked models of collaborative innovation.
The Partnership
The Health Transformation Lab has partnered with Cisco to create the RMIT-Cisco Sandbox facility. As part of the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN), The Sandbox fosters collaborations among leading universities and industry partners, to address pressing healthcare challenges through technology-driven innovation.
The Solution
The Sandbox is a digitally rich prototyping space powered by Cisco’s Meraki network and supported by leading health partners. Transforming patient-doctor interactions, the waiting experience, and care delivery.
The Sandbox facilitates a seamless transition from conceptual ideas to practical implementations through:
- Advanced Prototyping Environment
- Integration of Autonomous Robotics
- Focus on Health Care Technology Innovation
- Collaborative Research and Development
Recognition & Impact
Project Highlights
Developed custom technology-based workflows and demonstrations of key use cases, drawing from collaboration tools, custom developed AI, machine learning, robotics, video and surface sensors.
- Participated as the sole research partner for the Hetrobota show, created by Agnieszka Pilat as part of the NGV Triennial by providing access to the Boston Dynamics robot ‘Spot’, training and recording of the choreography leading to the event.
- Provided a series of exploratory design workshops of applied technology demonstrations for a leading hospital with over 8,000 staff members. Informing long-term patient monitoring strategy.
- Collaborated with RMIT’s STEM college to provide industry experience for master’s of AI students through their capstone project.
- Collaborated with a variety of industry, research, and government partners such as, Sleeptite, Architech, KeyReply, NGV, AusPost, the City of Melbourne, VMH, Medtech Actuator, and more.
